Transforming Member Services with the Lurgan Credit Union Mobile Banking App

The introduction of cuMobile has revolutionised how Credit Union members manage their finances, providing them with numerous benefits that enhance convenience, security and financial control.

Lurgan Credit Union has been committed to offering exceptional financial services to their members for over 60 years. To mark this milestone and to continue to offer excellent member experience, Lurgan Credit Union recognised the necessity of a robust mobile banking app.

The primary goals of this project were to enhance accessibility, streamline loan processes and provide a secure and user-friendly interface.

 

Goals & Objectives:

  • Enhanced Accessibility: Allow members to check balances and perform transactions at any time.
  • Comprehensive Loan Services: Enable loan applications through the app, with further development planned.
  • Allowing members to submit loan applications, receive and send messages and to upload the necessary documentation all through the Lurgan Credit Union App.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensure the app is distinctly branded for easy identification and alignment with marketing activities.
  • User Security: Implement advanced security features like biometric login.
  • Positive User Experience: Design a clean, intuitive interface to maximise usability.

Branding and Marketing Integration

To maintain brand consistency, the app was meticulously branded to reflect Lurgan CU’s identity. This involved:

  • Customising the app’s design to mirror the look and feel of Lurgan Credit Union’s online platform, cuOnline+.
  • Integrating marketing features that align with ongoing promotional activities.

Security and Accessibility

Security was a top priority, achieved through:

Biometric Authentication: For added security, the app includes biometric login options such as fingerprint recognition and Face ID, providing quick and secure access to accounts.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enhanced security measures, including 2FA, ensure that member accounts are protected from unauthorised access. As a bonus, if a member sets up biometric login during their first session, One Time Passcodes are no longer required, which streamline the process.

Real-Time Alerts: Members receive notifications for all transactions, including payments, withdrawals, and deposits, helping them stay informed about their account activity.

 Additional Features

  • Account Alerts: Customisable alerts notify members of low balances, due dates for bills, and other important account activities.
  • Paperless Statements: Members can opt for electronic statements, reducing paper waste and allowing for easy access to past statements within the app.

The app was launched on both the App Store and Google Play Store, accompanied by a marketing campaign to inform members of its features and benefits

Staff are always on hand to assist members with navigating the new app should they need it and Lurgan Credit Union have published links to handy tutorials on their website and on social media.

Lurgan Credit Union’s team worked enthusiastically on launching a range of marketing campaigns to increase awareness and downloads of the app and membership overall. With an average of 400 new app downloads per month, attributed to their marketing campaigns and a steady rise in memberships overall.

Results

User Adoption:  Significant adoption of the new mobile app by members. With 42% of members who were already utilising online banking, downloading the app.

User Feedback: Positive feedback highlighted the app’s functionality.

Security: Members appreciated the added security and convenience of biometric login.
