It was great catching up at CUMA

Hi Jonathan, Liam and team at Inishowen Credit Union. It was great catching up with you both at CUMA in Galway! I know there’s a lot going on at Inishowen Credit Union and it’s a very exciting time for you. I’ve pulled some resources that I hope you will find useful and informative.

As we discussed, SEPA Instant Payments is high on our priority list for the rest of this year, with excellent progression so far. We’re also elevating our Operational Resilience framework, by adhering to regulations set out in the Digital Operational Resilience Act (D.O.R.A) which likely could come into effect for Credit Unions in the near future. Read more about our efforts with SEPA Instant Payments and D.O.R.A in our blog below.

Wellington IT and Operational Resilience

The CBI set out the below x3 “Pillars of Operational Resilience”, and guidelines on how to meet these;

  1. Identify and Prepare
  2. Respond and Adapt
  3. Recover and Learn

A Special Interest Group (SIG) of Wellington IT customers was set up in November 2022 to begin breaking down the requirements and addressing the fundamentals of the project – to ensure there are suitable controls in place to meet any evolving risks/threat types, or subsequent incidents caused as a consequence of inadequacies within the control make up. This SIG is led by Wellington IT’s Compliance & Data Protection Officer, Ben Roy, as well as third-party Consultants, Solutions Orientated Risk Management.

The output of this SIG is designed to provide the Credit Union with the assurance that risk is accounted for, routinely stress tested in various forms and that controls are serving their purpose.

A number of key stages were identified as project deliverables:

  • Identification of each critical process
  • Confirmation of each of the assets that are in place to support those services
  • Creation of process maps to capture and visualise asset dependency
  • Risk identification
  • IT Control and Metrics
  • Definition of Business Continuity Planning to incorporate:
    • Scenarios
    • BCP testing
    • Incident Response
